Community Sport Hero Awarded to Erin Fitchett
Erin Fitchett is the face of Synchronized Swimming in Nelson starting the Nelson Reflections Synchronized Swimming Club in 1994 running it until a set back in 2013 with the collapse of the roof of the Nelson.pool. Now with a new pool, Erin is prepared with athletes to do the same again. The Nelson Reflections had grown to 40 members with representation at National competitions. Erin is now set to repeat that success. She is spreading the word with school posters, facebook, and newspaper articles. In a sport that is very limited due to the requirement of deep water, the Province of BC is very appreciative of people like Erin that help sustain the sport for the Kootenays BC Games zone and fosters the development of strong confident young athletes in the community.

Note from the Head Coach
My goal with the Nelson Reflections is to help the swimmers develop the necessary skills that will help each swimmer reach her goals and to promote a positive and fun learning experience!
In my coaching I put a lot of emphasis on building the basics; this is such an important aspect when coaching synchronized swimming. When you see the swimmers at a National level they perform with a certain amount of ease, they make it look easy! But it takes many years to develop a National level swimmer. They perform at such an elite level; they need to ensure their basics skills are “near perfect”. Even some of our own competitive swimmers have been swimming for 6 or more years, it takes time to develop the skills to get to the level they are at. Each of our levels prepares our swimmers for the next; this provides the swimmers with the necessary skills to make each transition a smooth one! I will ensure that the swimmers enjoy their synchro career. Though we need to train hard in our sport I will commit to keeping it fun, interesting and challenging.
I commit to keep in close contact with all my coaches to ensure that all levels are getting the attention they deserve.
I also commit to making myself available to answer any questions or concerns you may have. I ask of you that if you do have concerns that you please bring it to my attention early so we can solve it before we have an unhappy swimmer or parent. Helping the swimmer have a great experience in her synchro career is my most important goal.
